The Norwegian Ibsen Award
The Norwegian Ibsen Award was inaugurated by Skien municipality in 1986 to promote Norwegian drama. The award is presented each year in Skien.
The winner receives a cash prize of NOK 150,000 and a statuette designed by the Norwegian sculptor Nine Sundbye. The prize is awarded to a dramatic text that has had its first performance or Norwegian premiere in a professional Norwegian theatre in the preceding calendar year. The jury may also choose to award the prize for a playwright’s body of works as a whole. The deadline for proposing candidates for the Ibsen Award is 15 December each year.
The 2019 Ibsen Award winner, Demian Vitanza, was presented at a gala evening in the Ibsenhuset cultural centre on Wednesday 20 March.
